Moltex Oko Eco Nappies

by WhichNappy.co.uk

Moltex Oko NappiesMoltex Öko are environmentally-friendly biodegradable disposable nappies marketed by Ontex, a Belgium-based manufacturer of hygienic disposables operating in the babycare, feminine hygiene and adult incontinence markets. For babies, Ontex produces nappies, pants and wet wipes under its own brands Helen Harper, Canbebe, Bébé Cash, Baby Charm and Moltex Oko. Oko nappies are made with 50% biodegradable materials and with a chlorine-free core. The back sheet is made from 100% biodegradable starch (most nappies use plastic) although its protection against leakage may not be as good as that of a conventional plastic back sheet. But the Moltex nappies do contain a synthetic gel to absorb moisture. There are other kinds of eco-friendly disposable nappies which do not include absorbent gel including Nature Babycare from Naty.

Eco Features of Oko Nappies:

- made with more than 50% biodegradable materials;

- the absorbent pulp core is 100% chlorine free as the fluff used in Oko nappies is environmentally-friendly bleached without the use of chlorine. Instead the fluff is bleached with oxygen and its compounds peroxide and ozone;

- the breathable protective backsheet film is 100% biodegradable;

- the soft topsheet contains 40% renewable materials;

- elastic and re-closable fastening system;

- dermatologically tested and, accroding to Moltex, proven as "skin-friendly";

- free from natural latex and perfume.

Oko nappies come with compostable packaging. The nappies bag can be used for the collection of household bio-waste and could be put directly into the compost or the bio waste bin. Moreover, biodegradable packaging of Oko nappies can be composted at home, assuming you have good compost conditions like heat, humidity and oxygen. Generally the packaging is decomposed in professional plants within six to eight weeks however on the compost at home the degradation can take more time, especially in the witner.

Moltex nappies are available in five sizes:

- Mini 2 (46 pieces in a bag) - for babies 3-6 kg;

- Midi 3 (42 pieces) - 4-9 kg;

- Maxi 4 (40 pieces) - 7-18 kg;

- Junior 5 (34 pieces) - 11-25 kg;

- XL 6 (28 pieces) - 16-30 kg.

    Reusable nappies can be made from natural fibers, manmade materials, or a combination of both. They are often made from industrial cotton which may be bleached white or left the fiber’s natural colour.
